WHO WE ARE

17th-Dog / Team Matthew Failor

Matthew, Shadrack and Michael

Matthew, Shadrack and Michael

Carved out of the Birch & Black Spruce in Willow, AK, amongst numerous winter trails near the Mountains of Hatcher Pass, you can find home to 48 of the "hardest working athletes and truest friends"  Matthew Failor says he has ever known.  In 2013 Matthew began his own kennel, the 17th-Dog.  In the summer of 2014 the kennel was relocated to a larger lot, complete with handler's cabin and workshop.  Michael Baker joined the team that fall, and at the end of 2014 we began a top-notch breeding program.  Matthew is well on his way to his ultimate goal; winning Iditarod.

Matthew has not forgotten his roots, and supports, promotes, and empowers his home community (and beyond) through giving back; be that through Catholic Charities, local schools, or National Awareness. While Matthew remains focused on his future, he is firmly rooted in his past.

Athlete Booster

BECOME A BOOSTER

Our Boosters are a vital part of our team. Without you, we can't do what we do.

Your support provides one year's worth of chow, vet care, and kennel supplies for the athlete you choose.  You will be identified next to your athlete on the 17th-Dog website, receive a thank you note from Matthew, and an autographed picture of the team.  If your Booster athlete makes the cut and finds his/her way onto the 16-dog team roster for Iditarod, you will receive that dog’s actual, official Iditarod dog tag!  This is truly a one of a kind item specific to that dog, which he/she will wear on the collar from Anchorage to Nome.

PLEASE NOTE: Inquiring about an Athlete does not ‘guarantee’ that you will be able to support that athlete, as others may also be inquiring about the same Athlete, at the same time (it happens folks..)  Suggestion: have a second pick!

Contact us to find out how to become a booster!

* Thank you notes, pictures and swag will be sent after race season, once per year in April.

With your sponsorship you become a member of our team, 17th-Dog.

As with any professional sport, sponsorship is a key component for success in sled dog racing. Running a kennel is a year round enterprise. Dog food, dog boxes, dog air fare, booties, blankets, vet care, equipment, fuel, all are required for race success. Corporate Sponsorship starts at $1000 and earns your business exposure in the realm of competitive dog mushing.

Contact us for more information regarding benefits and sponsorship levels.
